9. Portland Trail Blazers

Pre-lottery odds of landing the No. 1 overall pick: 10.5%

As one of the more desperate teams heading into the offseason, the Portland Trail Blazers could very well use some good karma on NBA Draft Lottery night. However, I’m not sure how deserving the Blazers are of the No. 1 pick. Objectively, they’ve done all the right things. They compete night in and night out, have been loyal to Damian Lillard, and have tried to surround him with better talent over the last few seasons.

It simply hasn’t worked out. However, I’m not sure how I feel about the Blazers landing Victor Wembanyama when they still have Lillard on the roster. For some reason, that doesn’t sit well with me and I can’t imagine it will sit well with the supposed basketball gods. At least in my opinion, the Blazers earning the No. 1 pick would be the equivalent of a super team created by luck.

I don’t buy into that possibility. That usually just doesn’t happen and I can’t imagine that it will this time around for the Blazers. Though, a Lillard-Wembanyama duo would be quite intriguing to say the least.
