If the Los Angeles Lakers have their eyes on a bigger move this offseason, Fred VanVleet is a name that almost immediately comes to mind. And specifically with VanVleet, the Lakers and Toronto Raptors could get flexible with how to get a deal done. It would almost definitely have to be a sign-and-trade, considering LA’s salary cap situation. But VanVleet could either opt in to the final year of his contract with the team or he could sign a new deal to help the Lakers get something done more effectively.

Either way, if the Lakers and VanVleet wanted to make this pairing happen, it will happen. Of course, the downside of all this is that VanVleet, considering his limitations on the defensive end, could present the same issues that previous point guards on the Lakers’ roster have brought up.

Nevertheless, the hope here is that VanVleet’s dynamic scoring and playmaking would make it a worthy gamble for the Lakers. Plus, this move could even be a post-LeBron setup by the team.
