Why LeBron James to Mavs trade rumors could end with Kyrie Irving on Lakers
Kyrie Irving is a free agent this summer
If there’s one player in this entire scenario that has power, it’s Kyrie Irving. But it’s not much. The “power” that Kyrie possesses is the fact that he’s a free agent this offseason. If he wanted, he could choose his next landing spot. He may have to take a bit of a pay cut to do so, but that is something that Kyrie has complete control over at this point in his career. If he wants to make a reunion with LeBron happen, he has a good amount of control over that.
Of course, the big question is whether he would be willing to take a pay cut, how much of a pay cut, and if the Lakers would even be open to such a move. But let’s not forget that the bigger story is probably not about LeBron, who is still under contract. It’s about Kyrie and the big decision that he has to make in a few weeks.
The overwhelming belief is that Kyrie is probably going to re-sign with the Mavs if they give him the max contract extension that he’s going to be looking for this offseason.
