NBA Trade Rumors: Kyrie Irving is trying to recruit LeBron James to Mavs
NBA Trade Rumors: Kyrie Irving wants Dallas Mavericks to pursue pipe dream move for LeBron James.
When the Los Angeles Lakers lost in the Western Conference Finals to the Denver Nuggets, the vast expectation was that the former would run it back in another possible attempt to deliver LeBron James an NBA title.
And with how well the team looked post-NBA Trade Deadline up until they ran into the Nuggets, it seemed like a foregone conclusion. With an addition here or there, the Lakers would likely be a strong contender in the West next season.
But perhaps that is in jeopardy.
According to a recent report, Kyrie Irving has reached out to LeBron James in an attempt to recruit him to Dallas.
LeBron is still under contract through at least next season with the Lakers and can’t opt out for free agency until after the 2023-24 season but in the era of player movement if LeBron wants to force his way to other team (perhaps the Mavs), it’s not outlandish to believe that he can do it.
On the other hand, Kyrie is a free agent that many believe the Lakers could end up pursuing this offseason but he remains a top priority for Dallas. There’s also no guarantee the Mavs would want to help facilitate a sign-and-trade deal that would help Kyrie get to the Lakers.
Perhaps that’s where the Mavs fit in. If LeBron and Kyrie really want to play with each other next season and they know if isn’t happening in Los Angeles, perhaps exploring the possibility in Dallas isn’t a terrible idea.
Would LeBron James want to leave the Los Angeles Lakers?
This ultimately comes down to one thing – How willing is LeBron to leave the Lakers or force his way onto another team?
We know LeBron is all-in for winning NBA Championships. The question is, does he still believe the Lakers give him the best opportunity to do so.
If LeBron has no interest in leaving Los Angeles, this is all a moot story or rumor. But if there’s even a small chance that he’d be open to the idea of leaving the Lakers, this is only the beginning of what could end up being a chaotic offseason for LeBron, the Lakers, and possibly the Mavs.
Either way, all eyes will now be on LeBron James and his immediate future with the Lakers.
