NBA Rumors: Fred VanVleet is likely to emerge as one of the bigger names in Free Agency this offseason.

With as much uncertainty that surrounds the Toronto Raptors heading into the offseason, there’s no predicting how the next couple of months will play out for the team. One of the bigger questions for the Raptors this summer revolves around how Fred VanVleet’s free agency will play out.

He has the opportunity to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Raptors and the belief is that he will do so either in an attempt to secure a long-term extension with Toronto or to pursue another opportunity elsewhere.

Either way, there’s a strong chance that he ends up testing his free agency market one way or another. Assuming that remains so, that means there’s at least a non-zero chance that VanVleet ends up moving on from the Raptors. We explore the biggest non-Toronto threats to sign VanVleet this offseason.

Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns are a team that has already been linked to VanVleet but they’re probably one of the most unlikely landing spots for him. That’s because the only real path to VanVleet landing on the Suns is after a Deandre Ayton and then a Chris Paul move. Unless those two things happen this offseason, it’s practically impossible for VanVleet to find his way to the Suns.

However, I can’t help but wonder how a trio of VanVleet, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker would fare in the Western Conference next season. It would certainly create of the most offensively intriguing teams in the NBA.
