San Antonio Spurs

Would it be that outlandish to suggest the San Antonio Spurs could emerge as a possible landing spot for a veteran difference-maker and how that potential veteran difference-maker could be Fred VanVleet? The Spurs have a need at the point guard position and VanVleet would be a great experienced presence as the franchise transitions Victor Wembanyama from overseas play to the NBA.

The Spurs are likely going to make the jump from bad to good and potentially really good relatively soon. Moves like the ones for VanVleet are something that could further expedite that process. San Antonio might be a great fit for VanVleet. As a prized free agent, he won’t have to be the savior for the franchise. Instead, he’ll be asked to play a supporting role for what many expect to be one of the next faces of the league.

I’m not sure how good the Spurs can be led by a VanVleet-Wemby duo, but it could turn out to be one of those underrated signings that ends up paying dividends for the franchise in a year or two.
