When will Victor Wembanyama make his NBA Summer League debut?
Victor Wembanyama will be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, but when could we expect him to make his NBA Summer League debut?
At the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery, the San Antonio Spurs‘ future and trajectory as a franchise completely changed. After winning the lottery, the Spurs will head into the 2023 NBA Draft with the opportunity to draft Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 overall pick.
The 7-foot-4 (and possibly still growing) 19-year-old generational talent appears to be the next possible phenomenon that is going to completely change the NBA for the better. And, in the process, there’s a good chance that he will once again revive the Spurs franchise.
It will all be officially on NBA Draft night, June 22. And shortly after, the expectation is that Wemby will make his debut with the Spurs in the NBA Summer League. However, it still isn’t known when exactly we should expect Wemby to make his debut on an NBA court this summer.
When will Victor Wembanyama make his NBA Summer League debut?
In the past, many highly-touted prospects have made their NBA Summer League debuts in the popular Las Vegas Summer League, which will begin July 7. And there’s a good chance that Wemby ends up making his debut then.
However, considering that the Spurs will also participate in the California Classic Summer League, which takes place a few days before the start of the LVSL, there’s also a chance that Wemby could end up making his NBA Summer League debut on July 3 when the Spurs face off against the Charlotte Hornets.
And according to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, he has no issue if the Spurs want Wemby to make his debut a few days before the popular LVSL.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter when Wemby makes his debut, whether it’s in the California Classic or Las Vegas. Wemby has gotten to the point where he’s going to demand eyes either way.
Wemby hasn’t even played a minute of NBA basketball and you can make the argument that he’s already a superstar. That’s rare for a rookie and it’s at the point where you can say that he’s the most viral and highly-touted prospect since LeBron James.
The good news is that Wemby is slated to make his debut in the NBA Summer League. There are times when prospects completely skip Summer League events. At least for now, it seems that Wemby is going to make his first splash in the league sooner rather than later.
