NBA Draft Rumor: Orlando Magic want to move up into top 5

Heading into the 2023 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic are one of the few teams with plenty of flexibility. They will enter the draft with two lottery picks in their back pocket and with plenty of motivation to improve their roster. One recent rumor has the Magic possibly making a big move with those two picks. According to HoopsHype, there is a belief that the Magic could try to package their two lottery picks (No. 6 and 11) to jump into the top 5.

If this is a move that the Magic does end up making, I’d have to imagine that the target would be one of the point guard prospects – and specifically Scoot Henderson or Amen Thompson. One of those players has to drop to No. 4 and I believe that’s a spot where the Magic would want to move into. However, that could prove to be a difficult task to pull off considering the Rockets (who own the No. 4 pick) would likely want a veteran talent.

That said, just because it would be difficult to pull off doesn’t mean this is a false rumor. The Magic have a clear need at point guard and would jump at the option, at least in my opinion, of moving up if it just meant parting ways with the No. 6 and 11 picks.
