The Pelicans trade Zion Williamson to Charlotte Hornets
If the New Orleans Pelicans were at a point where they’d be willing to move on from Zion Williamson, whose career has been tainted by injuries, don’t count out the possibility that the Hornets could be open to the idea of pairing LaMelo Ball and Zion moving forward. At least on paper, that could prove to be one of the better young 1-2 punches in the league right now. And if they could both remain healthy, they’d be a real problem in the Eastern Conference down the line.
But in order for the Pelicans to be willing to move Zion, that would mean they would have to be 100 percent sold on the trio of Scoot Henderson, CJ McCollum, and Brandon Ingram. That would have to be the trio that gets the Pelicans to take the step forward that they simply haven’t been able to do over the past few seasons. Quite frankly, I’m not sure it can.
Maybe the Pelicans are in a place where they’re ready to retool and change things up. If they were, you can’t blame them. This is a team that has constantly fallen short of expectations over the past few seasons. Maybe they are ready to shake up their roster in a big way.
