NBA Trade Rumors: One potential trade target that could arise for the Dallas Mavericks is Bojan Bogdanovic.

The overwhelming expectation is that the Dallas Mavericks will attempt to move the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft in an attempt to acquire help for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving (who the team will also need to re-sign during the offseason). After a disappointing season in which the Mavs missed the playoffs entirely after a run to the Western Conference Finals the year before, there’s no question that there needs to be changes (and, ideally, upgrades) to the roster.

But without much trade bait aside from the No. 10 pick, it could prove to be difficult for the Mavs to secure a significant upgrade. According to a recent report, however, one potential target that could emerge for the Mavs is Bojan Bogdanovic.

In a floated hypothetical offer by ESPN (subscription required), the Mavs could send the No. 10 overall pick and Tim Hardway Jr. to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Bogdanovic and the No. 31 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Bojan Bogdanovic would be a great fit for the Dallas Mavericks

At least on paper, a Bogdanovic addition for the Mavs would seem like an excellent idea. Even though he’s 34 years old, Bogdanovic is still playing at an extremely high level. Bogdanovic is coming off a season in which he averaged 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists on 49 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent shooting from 3-point range.

To think that he wouldn’t be a good fit next to Kyrie and Luka would be foolish. Bogdanovic would give the Mavs an efficient scorer on the wing that they simply didn’t have last season. And he could make all the difference for the team that struggled at times to find an offensive rhythm when Luka was either off the floor or unavailable.

Whether this is a deal that both teams would agree to remains to be seen, but it’s certainly the Mavs should at the very least explore. I’d anticipate that the Mavs are going to pursue a more defensive-minded target with the No. 10 pick if they can’t get a star-level player.

But if they do struggle to find the right candidate, Bogdanovic would not be a terrible fallback option.

The Mavs have to make a move. And you’d have to think that it will come in the next week, before the NBA Draft.
