NBA Rumors: After being linked to him, the Miami Heat are not expected to push hard for Kyrie Irving.

The next few weeks for the Miami Heat will be interesting and could very well dictate what the future holds for the franchise. From all indications, this is a team that is expected to explore the opportunity to target a star via trade. They have *enough* assets that they could make a strong push to add a third star next to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

The question remains, will this front office be able to get it done? They falter in their attempt last offseason and it led to the team taking a significant step back in the regular season standings. Even though the greatness of Jimmy, Bam, and head coach Erik Spoelstra managed to overcome that in the NBA Playoffs, this is not a team that should toy with taking another step back this offseason.

According to plugged-in Miami Heat reporter Ira Winderman, the expectation is that the team will make Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal the two priorities or two targets in their attempt to find a third star this offseason.

Interestingly enough, an added part to that report suggested that the Heat would not have that much interest in pushing hard for a potential move for Kyrie Irving.

The Miami Heat have been interested in Kyrie Irving in the past

Shams Charania reported recently that the Heat was interested in Kyrie at this past NBA Trade Deadline. So much so that they made an offer for him to the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn ended up trading Kyrie to the Dallas Mavericks, but the fact that the Heat was interested enough to submit a formal offer is significant enough.

Considering the Heat will be in the market for a star this summer, you can’t help but wonder if that means they could revisit their previous interest in Kyrie. However, at least for now, that doesn’t seem to be a priority for the Heat to begin the offseason.

Could that change if the Heat misses out on Beal and Lillard, sure. But by the time that happens, there’s a good chance that Kyrie’s future will already have been determined as a free agent.

The Heat will make a strong effort to land a star this offseason. There’s no guarantee that they’ll be able to strike a deal but you can expect them to exhaust all potential avenues of doing so. And perhaps one could lead them back to Kyrie. Or maybe not.
