NBA Trade Rumors: The Dallas Mavericks have their eye on trading for Clint Capela.

Just a few days away from the 2023 NBA Draft, the Dallas Mavericks don’t have much time to find a difference-making player before they’re forced to make a selection with the No. 10 overall pick. Heading into the offseason, the hope was that the Mavs could swing the No. 10 pick for a player that could help improve the supporting cast around Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.

A deal has yet to materialize. However, there are whispers that the Mavs could be close. According to a recent report, the Mavs have their eyes on making a trade for Clint Capela. The Atlanta Hawks could be looking to open up playing time for Onyeka Okongwu and trading Capela would go a long way in accomplishing that.

That said, that doesn’t mean the Hawks are ready to part ways with Capela. Especially with John Collins struggling the way he has of late, you would imagine that he would be the player the Hawks would be more willing to move.

The report suggests that the Mavs want to move the No. 10 pick for Capela and the No. 15 pick. In the eyes of the Hawks, that may not be a deal worth making. However, you can’t really assume what Atlanta may be thinking heading into the offseason.

At the very least, it’s something worth monitoring heading into the NBA Draft.

Clint Capela would make a lot of sense for the Dallas Mavericks

While I’m not sure if Capela is the ideal target for the Mavs, he’s certainly a player that would theoretically help Dallas. The Mavs struggled mightily on the defensive end of the floor last season, especially late in the year.

For all Capela’s limitations on the offensive end, he’s going to be a strong rim protector for the team. If that’s what they’re seeking, he’d be a great addition from that standpoint. This past season in Atlanta, Capela averaged 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.

And playing next to Luka and Kyrie will certainly make life for him a lot easier when it comes to getting rim-running buckets on the offensive end.
