The Orlando Magic will trade down with one of their two lottery picks

Heading into the 2023 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic will be equipped with two lottery picks – specifically, the Magic has the No. 6 and 11 picks in their back pocket. That will give the team the utmost flexibility at the top of the draft. Theoretically, the Magic have the ability to trade up, trade down, or stand pat. Quite frankly, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if the Magic decided to go down either of these paths.

The Magic could package the No. 6 and 11 picks to move up. However, I don’t believe that’s something they’ll pursue this week. They could stand pat and take home two lottery picks. Similarly, I don’t believe that the Magic, who will be looking to add veterans this summer in free agency in an attempt to make a push toward the postseason, would want to add to long-term projects via the lottery.

That leaves the option of a possible trade down from one of these picks for the Mavs. I believe there’s a better chance that the Magic could trade No. 11 for a future asset – maybe even a veteran contributor that could help the team.
