NBA Rumors: There are whispers that the Boston Celtics could still be looking to make a big move even after the huge move for Kristaps Porzingis.

After the LA Clippers pulled out from an already agreed upon (but not finalized) three-team trade centers around Malcolm Brogdon and Kristaps Porzingis, it seemed as if the Boston Celtics had whiffed on what would have been an excellent addition. However, as the Celtics generally do, they turned around to salvage what was looking like a missed opportunity.

With the Clippers out, the Celtics and Washington Wizards turned to the Memphis Grizzlies to complete the three-team deal. Officially, the Celtics traded a second-round pick, Marcus Smart (who was swapped for Brogdon, due to injury concerns) to the Grizzlies, Danilo Gallinari and center Mike Muscala to the Washington Wizards in exchange for two first-round picks and Porzingis.

It quickly became clear that after the first deal fell through, this was something that the Celtics needed to salvage. And it came at the expense of Smart. In a vacuum, I’m not sure how “better” the Celtics are with swapping Smart for Kristaps but you can’t imagine that they are done reshuffling their roster.

And according to a recent report, they aren’t. Per Celtics reporter Brian Robb, the team is “far from done” this offseason. That would not be all that surprising. This is a team that still has some work to do, especially moving a player as important as Smart.

The Boston Celtics need to add another ball-handler and playmaker

For as good as Kristaps may end up being for this team, there are still big questions that the Celtics need to answer heading into the offseason. For one, how will they replace Smart’s playmaking and defense in the backcourt? Or his versatility on the defensive end of the floor?

How will they handle the sudden logjam that there could be in the frontcourt between Kristaps, Al Horford, and Robert Williams? Is Grant Williams still on the way out after the adjusted trade package?

Are the Celtics still in line to give Jaylen Brown the supermax extension?

To say that Boston isn’t done retooling their roster before the NBA Draft and free agency take place is not that hot of a take. In fact, it would be expected. But there’s no question that this team still has some tweaking to do. And figuring out how to replace Smart has to be at the top of their list.
