NBA Trade Rumors: Heat expected to pursue Tyler Herro trade possibilities
NBA Trade Rumors: After the Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole, there is a belief that the Miami Heat could trade Tyler Herro next.
It’s pretty safe to say that an unexpected run to the NBA Finals may have changed the entire future of the Miami Heat. Over the next couple of weeks, the Heat will be tasked with making big decisions as it pertains to the direction of the franchise.
They don’t have much financial flexibility heading into free agency so whatever moves they do make will have to be via trades (with the exception of signing their own free agents).
One player that the Heat will have to make a decision on this offseason is Tyler Herro. He missed the team’s run to the NBA Finals after suffering a broken hand in Game 1 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks. His absence, coupled with the Heat’s success, will naturally bring about some big-picture questions about where he stands as a foundational palyer for the team.
Interestingly, after the Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole (who has a similar contract to Herro), it was reported by Yahoo’s Jake Fischer that there is a belief around the league that the Heat could follow suit.
For several reasons, it’s not outlandish to believe that the Heat could trade Herro this summer.
It’s almost impossible to predict Tyler Herro’s trade value
Herro is coming off 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game on 38 percent shooting from 3-point range. Still, he never truly felt like a natural fit as the team’s starting shooting guard.
If the Heat will be exploring trade Herro, it’s hard to imagine or predict what his trade value would be right now. And looking at the Poole deal, it becomes that much more of a question.
For the Heat, it could be as simple as this: the team managed to make a run to the NBA Finals without Herro. If they could turn Herro into a player that fits around Jimmy and Bam better, why not pull the trigger? Or, at the very least, ease up some of the cap hit that is coming once his contract extension hits the books (next season).
If the Heat is sold on continuing to maximize the Jimmy build, Herro seems pretty expendable. Especially considering his limitations on the defensive end of the floor. Herro may eventually develop into a great player but it may have to be on another team. The next few weeks for the Heat will prove to be fascinating.
