Grading the biggest moves from the first day of NBA Free Agency.

The NBA’s Free Agency period is underway and it’s gotten off to a striking start. In the first few hours in which teams are allowed to negotiate with free agents, there were more than a handful of deals that came together. Even though teams aren’t officially able to sign players until July 6, the free-agency picture is already beginning to take shape.

With plenty of moves already negotiated and completed, we grade and take a closer look at 11 of the biggest headline-grabbing signings after day 1 of NBA Free Agency.

Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors

The contract: 4 years, $100 million

Even though this deal is going to get some second-guessing, this was a move that needed to be made. Even more so after the Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards before the 2023 NBA Draft. Draymond may be slowing down but he’s still very much the heart and soul of the Warriors.

I’m not sure what the Warriors look like without Draymond on the roster. It’s clear that the front office is giving this core another few years together, and it’s probably for the best. The big question is, can Draymond hold off Father Time for a few more years?

It’ll be interesting to see what other moves the Warriors are able to make after bringing Draymond back. But all eyes will now be on Klay Thompson, who could be up next. He’s entering the final year of his contract and is eligible for an extension this offseason. With Stephen Curry and Draymond under contract for the next three seasons, it wouldn’t be surprising if Klay ends up being next.
