If Damian Lillard isn’t sold on the Sixers and Joel Embiid, the Boston Celtics should absolutely be an option he should be willing to consider. Even if the Celtics would offer a generous package for the Blazers, Boston would likely still be left with Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis for Lillard to play with. On paper, that would seem an even better fit than what the Heat could offer in Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

Add in the fact that the Celtics’ relationship with Jaylen Brown may be a bit confusing, especially considering that he’s yet to come to a contract extension with the team, and it’s easy to see why this is an option that could come to fruition for both sides. The big question, of course, is whether the Blazers view Brown as a max player and whether he would want to play in Portland if he would leave Boston.

At least in a vacuum, the Celtics should be considered an outside possibility for Lillard. Of course, there’s no guarantee that Lillard even moves off his stance of the Heat or bust. However, if an agreement doesn’t come in the next few days, you’d have to imagine that some other suitors may end up being a bigger possibility.
