Now that Damian Lillard has officially demanded a trade, the Portland Trail Blazers will have their hands full in trying to move into a new era for the franchise. The Blazers and Lillard are clearly moving in different directions. The Blazers are headed toward a rebuild and Lillard wants to play for a team that is close to contention. Portland can’t give him that, so he decided to force the issue and request a trade.

Specifically, Lillard reportedly wants to be traded to the Miami Heat, but it’s not going to be that simple if it gets done. The Heat don’t have the premier assets that the Blazers are looking for in a 1-on-1 deal. Therefore, if the Heat is going to land Lillard, it’s more than likely going to have to come in the way of a three or four-team deal.

The Heat has to be working hard to try to find a third or fourth team that could help them close a deal with the Blazers. With everything that has been reported, it would be quite a disaster if the Heat isn’t able to strike a deal for Lillard. It would be viewed as the missed opportunity of the decade, at least.
