NBA Trade Rumors: The Portland Trail Blazers have a step but fair asking price for Damian Lillard.

For what has felt like an eternity, it’s only been one week since Damian Lillard requested a trade away from the Portland Trail Blazers. After the start of free agency, it was quickly evident that the Blazers weren’t going to be able to pull off the big move that he was hoping the Blazers could in order to justify remaining with the team.

At 32 years old, Lillard is at the point in his career where he’s ready to compete for championships. The Blazers, for as good as they’ve been for Lillard, are simply not in a position where they can offer that to him. Once Lillard came to that realization, perhaps a couple of years too late, he made the decision to prepare for a trade.

Of course, what has complicated this entire process since the trade request is the fact that Lillard has maintained that he only wants to be traded to the Heat. As you’d imagine, that has cast a dark shadow on Lillard recently. The narrative has turned on him and it’s left the Blazers in a lose-lose situation.

The only way the Blazers will make it through the process unscathed from either side is if they get exactly what they’re looking for in a return for Lillard and if the return they get is from the Heat.

What is the Portland Trail Blazers’ asking price for Damian Lillard?

So what is the asking price for Lillard exactly? Well, no one seemed to know. Until now.

According to a recent report, the Blazers are asking for four first-round picks and two quality players in any trade for Lillard. On one hand, that may seem steep considering the circumstances that Lillard and his agent have put the team under.

On the other hand, that’s not that huge of an ask. It’s what the current superstar market is in the NBA. And if the Heat can’t meet or get extremely close to that asking price, they are in no position to be in the market for a star, let alone a superstar.

If the Heat truly wants Lillard, there is a path to getting to that price. And with the recent reports indicating that there could be a sitdown during Summer League between the Heat and the Blazers, perhaps this is something that can get ironed out quickly.

Or maybe Portland just trades him to another team that has no issue meeting the price point regardless of the message that Lillard and his agent are trying spread.
