Keegan Murray, Sacramento Kings
After a successful rookie year, where he broke the record for most 3’s made as a rookie, and he helped lead the Sacramento Kings to the playoffs for the first time in 16 years, Keegan Murray is back. And this time he’s torching the Summer League.
Murray has been far and away the best player in Summer League. In two games played, Murray is averaging 35 points, eight rebounds, and 4.5 3’s made, including his 41-point game against the Miami Heat. The main improvement seen in Keegan’s game is the way he’s scoring, specifically from beyond the arc.
Although Keegan was a great 3-point shooter as a rookie, he was mostly shooting off the catch, which limited his potential as a focal scoring option. But in Summer League, he’s hitting shots off the dribble, moving off screens, and even getting to the bucket which was a huge rarity in his first year.
With these improvements, we should see Keegan get some more on-ball reps this season. Truly in these two games, he’s been the most fun to watch, and he’s been the most dominant player in Summer League.
Now that he’s officially been shut down from Summer League, he will focus on preparing for another potential breakout season.
