2. Spurs take Victor Wembanyama, Sidy Cissoko

Even though Victor Wembanyama’s NBA Summer League debut left a bit to be desired, there’s no question that he was one of the biggest moves of the offseason. After winning the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery, the San Antonio Spurs made the decision to take Wemby with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. It came as a surprise to no one as any team that landed the No. 1 pick was going to make such a move.

Nevertheless, with the move, the Spurs are now set for at least the next decade. Assuming he can remain healthy, the belief is that Wemby is going to be special. He has everything you want in the modern-day superstar prospect, and then some. He’s athletic, big, and long, and has proven to be a dominant player during his short professional time overseas.

It may take some time for him to develop, as we saw during his up-and-down NBA Summer League debut, but the high-end potential that Wemby has is enough to change the complete trajectory of the Spurs moving forward.

At least in part, this offseason will be remembered as the summer in which Wemby entered the NBA and, if all bodes well, the offseason in which everything changed for the Spurs organization.
