NBA Trade Rumors: Could Indiana Pacers swing a trade for Pascal Siakam?
NBA Trade Rumors: The Indiana Pacers are reportedly interested in trading for Pascal Siakam. Could they conceivably make a move for him?
After making one of the bigger splashes in free agency, in which the team signed Bruce Brown to a huge deal, it’s quickly become clear that the Indiana Pacers have some big plans for next season. They are looking to make a tangible move up the Eastern Conference standings and possibly become one of the most dangerous young teams in the conference.
With a young core in place, what you have to love most about the Pacers is their ability to still add to the team in the way of a trade. In addition to a young talented core, the Pacers have a roster and assets which will make it easy for them to add another star to the team.
At the moment, the Pacers own all their picks and have numerous additional second-round picks. Essentially, they have four tradable future first-round picks and some interesting young pieces that they could include in a hypothetical blockbuster deal.
In the right situation, there’s nothing truly stopping the Pacers from going all-in for a player of their choosing that also finds themselves on the trade block.
One superstar who is on the trade block at the moment that also makes sense for the Pacers is Pascal Siakam. And according to recent reports (subscription required), he’s a player that has the interest of the Pacers.
The trade market for Pascal Siakam could be limited
If the Toronto Raptors are indeed ready (or prepping) to move on from Siakam, it could make for an interesting next couple of weeks. There’s no indication that a trade is near but that could change at any given moment if the right deal comes around.
And perhaps that “right” deal could come from the Pacers.
A trio of Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, and Pascal Siakam would be intriguing. I’m not even sure if the Pacers would want to keep Turner around if they were to make the move for Siakam, but there is reason to believe that those two players could work together on the floor.
Either way, if the Pacers have a genuine interest in Turner, it’s hard to ignore them as a potential threat. Indiana has the assets; it would be more about backchanneling to ensure that Siakam would be willing to sign an extension with the Pacers.
At least for now, it sure seems as if the momentum is trending toward Siakam being traded at some point before the start of the season. Maybe the Pacers could emerge as a legit landing spot.
