NBA Trade Rumors: Still a mystery why he’s on the open market, we explore three teams that should pursue a sign-and-trade for PJ Washington.

More than two weeks into free agency, I’m not sure many envisioned PJ Washington still being available on the open market. Nevertheless, with most of the free-agency money dried up, Washington, the fourth-year power forward out of Kentucky, is still looking for a home.

At this point, it would probably prove wise for Washington to be patient. However, at some point, if there simply isn’t a huge market for him, he’ll need to make a big decision about next season.

PJ Washington is a good player in a bad situation

Full disclosure, it may be in the best interest of Washington to play under the qualifying offer in Charlotte for one more season in an attempt to get to unrestricted free agency next season. You can’t help but wonder what his market would’ve been had he been an unrestricted free agent at the start of the offseason.

Nevertheless, still on the open market, there aren’t many teams with available cap space that are also interested in Washington. That’s one of the biggest reasons why a sign-and-trade deal makes the most sense for Washington at this point.

Washington is a good young player that may not have even hit his prime yet. He’s coming off the best season of his career in which he averaged 16 points and five rebounds on 35 percent shooting from 3-point range.

He may be a bit of an undersized power forward but he’s proven to be a good player through the first four years of his career. There should be a market for him, even if it is just via sign-and-trade.

Let’s explore three teams that should be interested in exploring the market for Washington via trade.
