15. Quin Snyder, Atlanta Hawks
Quin Snyder is an offensive mind. His teams make the playoffs but have yet to take the next step. It will be interesting to see how Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks respond to Snyder’s tutelage with a full training camp.
14. Jason Kidd, Dallas Mavericks
Jason Kidd can scheme with the best. Remember when he told Tyshawn Taylor to “bump” him so he could spill his soda in Brooklyn? It was to get a free timeout that he didn’t have. Brilliant! He’s not the best at adjusting but can develop young players. Ask the “Greek Freak.”
13. Ime Udoka, Houston Rockets
Ime Udoka was thought to be the next, great head coach after leading the Boston Celtics to the Finals in his first season. Then, there was THAT scandal. Still, Udoka is a great communicator, solid at X’s & O’s, and can make adjustments on the fly.
12. Taylor Jenkins, Memphis Grizzlies
Taylor Jenkins is a player’s coach and has developed young talent in Memphis. Expectations have grown, but so has the level of adversity. The Grizzlies haven’t been able to respond positively – yet. Jenkins will have another shot to lead the young Grizz past the noise next season.
11. Frank Vogel, Phoenix Suns
Some believe that Vogel is a classic good, but not great coach. His teams play hard, defend, and exhibit a high basketball IQ. Vogel can develop talent too. Plus, his teams usually win. Vogel won a ring as a head coach, something the previous coaches on this list can’t say.
