4. Charlotte Hornets drafting Brandon Miller over Scoot Henderson

To open the offseason, the Charlotte Hornets had a huge decision to make that would almost certainly impact the future of the team. It was what to do with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. They reportedly entertained the idea of trading the pick but ultimately decided it was best to choose between Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller. As we know now, the Hornets elected to select Miller over Scoot and it was quite the decision in real-time.

From now on, fair or not, Miller and Scoot will forever be attached to each other. They’ll be compared for the rest of their careers and the Hornets will be judged harshly if Scoot ends up being the better player in the long run. In the end, the Hornets decided to prioritize fit over talent.

It seemed that the Hornets leaned toward selecting Miller because he was a better prototypical fit next to LaMelo Ball. Having Ball and Scoot on the same team didn’t make much sense for the Hornets’ decision-makers. Will it end up paying off or will this be a decision that the franchise grows to regret down the line?
