NBA Trade Rumors: The Dallas Mavericks are still hopeful in their pursuits of acquiring Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks.

There’s no question that the clock is ticking for the Dallas Mavericks front office. After taking a huge step back last season, the Mavs didn’t have much room for error and needed to greatly improve the roster this summer.

That’s exactly what the Mavs have done. With the additions of Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and Dereck Lively II, you can make the easy argument that the team is in a much better spot than they were a few months ago.

And they may not even be done.

According to a recent report, the Mavs are still hopeful that they could acquire Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks before the start of the season.

The Dallas Mavericks, Clint Capela have been linked all offseason

The Mavs are a team that have been linked to Capela previously this offseason and it appears that smoke isn’t going away anytime soon. And with the recent whispers that the Hawks are still hopeful to trade Capela, it’s easy to see why this may end up being something that ends up happening before the start of the season.

What it may truly come down to is whether or not the Mavs and Hawks can find an agreement on a middle ground on the asking price. You’d have to imagine that the Hawks are at least looking for a future first-round pick and expiring money to swap Capela for. However, I’m not sure if that’s a price point that the Mavs are willing to meet.

Dallas is probably more motivated to find a deal that doesn’t involve one of their few tradable future first-round picks. And perhaps that’s the biggest reason why this deal has not come to fruition.

Nevertheless, from an on-the-court perspective, the addition of Capela does appear to be interesting from the Mavs’ point of view. He could cap off what has been a relatively successful offseason for the Mavs.

Dallas didn’t have much financial flexibility heading into the summer, but if they can emerge into the season after drafting a talented rookie in Dereck Livley II, re-signing Kyrie, adding Seth Curry and Grant Williams in free agency, and then finalize a trade for Capela, that would be quite the upgrading of the roster.

The Mavs entered the offseason with some high expectations. As perhaps a surprise to some, Dallas has managed to somewhat surpass them. Can the Mavs complete one of the better offseason makeovers with the acquisition of Capela?
