Boston Celtics: Best and worst moves from 2023 NBA offseason
The best offseason moves made by the Boston Celtics
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Boston Celtics this offseason. Even after some questionable moves made, you can argue that the Celtics did make some encouraging transitions that could go a long way in helping this team win a title this season.
Trading for Kristaps Porzingis
One of those bigger moves included the Celtics acquiring Kristaps Porzingis in a blockbuster three-team trade. Ideally, this move would’ve been done without the inclusion of Marcus Smart. However, an alteration of the deal needed to be done to make it work. The Celtics still managed to land Smart but it came at a much higher price.
In a vacuum, though, the addition of Porzingis could very well result in a championship. He’s going to give this team a third elite scoring threat that they didn’t have on the roster after Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. There are many people that simply have forgotten just how good Porzingis is.
Drafting Jordan Walsh
Another good move that the Celtics made this offseason was drafting Jordan Walsh. The early returns from NBA Summer League were encouraging for Walsh. Even though he was a second-round draft pick, there’s at least a non-zero chance he can continue some this season, and a good shot he can develop into a good player for the team down the road.
The Celtics very much had an up-and-down offseason but it will all be a distant memory if they can win as championship in 2024.
