NBA Rumors: James Harden and Daryl Morey’s relationship is reportedly “done.” It’s a shame it’s gotten to this point for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Right now, I don’t think many teams would want to be in the position in which the Philadelphia 76ers find themselves. They have no clear idea of what their roster is going to look like when training camp starts and there’s a strong chance that a retooling or a full-blown rebuild could be on the horizon.

But it’s important for the Sixers to focus on one problem at a time. For now, that’s James Harden. It’s been more than a month since Harden requested a trade from the Sixers and preferably to the LA Clippers. So far, there hasn’t been much traction on such a deal. Nevertheless, this is not something that is going away and something the Sixers very much have to deal with.

To make matters worse, it appears that the relationship between Harden and Sixers general manager Daryl Morey has taken a turn for the worse. According to a recent report, their relationship is “done.”

It’s certainly not a good circumstance for the team. If there was/is any hope in Harden returning to play for the Sixers next season, it was always likely going to hinge on relationships – either from the relationship between Harden and Joel Embiid or between Harden and Morey.

James Harden is almost single-handedly sinking the Philadelphia 76ers

If this report is indeed true and there isn’t much of a remaining relationship between Harden and Morey, this is not a good next step for the Sixers.

It feels like this Harden-Sixers situation is going to get uglier before any type of resolution occurs. Considering that training camps are inching closer and closer to starting, you can’t help but wonder where that leaves the team.

We know Harden wants to be in LA. We also know that Morey isn’t just going to gift Harden to the Clippers. The two sides are in a stalemate without a clear path forward. And things are only getting uglier in Philadelphia.

This is all quite unfortunate considering that Morey was a big reason why Harden was traded to the Sixers in the first place. To see their relationship go down the drain is pretty concerning. It likely has to do with Harden’s trade request and the Sixers’ stubbornness in helping facilitate a deal.

The Sixers have some big decisions to make over the next few weeks. At this point, it’s impossible to predict how it will all resolve.
