Worst moves made by the Chicago Bulls this offseason

I firmly believe the Chicago Bulls sleepwalked through this summer. They didn’t make any huge mistakes but they also didn’t take any huge steps forward. There were a few missteps that they could grow to regret.

Re-signing Nikola Vucevic to $60 million extension

One of the worst moves of the offseason for the Bulls included re-signing Nikola Vucevic. In a vacuum, this is not a terrible move. Vucevic is a productive player for the Bulls and is coming off a season in which he averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds on 52 percent shooting from the field. However, he’s just another contract that the Bulls will have to move if – or when – they get to a point where they’re ready to rebuild.

Considering that point in their progression is probably sooner rather than later, this deal didn’t make much sense to me.

Not taking a clear direction toward the future

Once again, I don’t understand what the Bulls’ plan is heading into the season. On one hand, I suppose giving this core one more shot to get things right is not a terrible idea. On the other, that’s kind of the definition of insanity.

It seems more and more likely that the Bulls are headed toward a rebuild. They’re just delaying what feels like the inevitable.
