NBA Rumors: As the start of training camp inches closer and closer, the Los Angeles Lakers are still hopeful they can sign Christian Wood.

Less than two months away, the time before the start of NBA Training Camps is going to fly by. Even though there isn’t expected to be much in the way of NBA news in the next two months, aside from the FIBA World Cup, and maybe we are lucky enough to see the end of the Damian Lillard and James Harden trade sagas (though there is no guarantee), there are still a couple of difference-making free agents that are still on the open market.

One of those free agents that will at some point sign with a team before the start of training camps is Christian Wood. Even though he didn’t have a banner year with the Dallas Mavericks last season, the fact that he still remains unsigned at this point in free agency is pretty egregious.

Wood, who averaged 17 points and seven rebounds last season, is still 27 years old and could make a huge difference in the right situation. At this point, with most of the free-agency money dried up, it would make sense for him to wait for the right opportunity.

The question is, what will be the right opportunity in his eyes? Most recently, a few teams that Wood has been linked to are the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Heat.

Is Christian Wood destined to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers?

According to a recent report, the Lakers are still hopeful and may be keeping a roster spot open for the chance that Wood will sign with them before the start of the season. And if the Lakers have it their way, Wood will have a spot on the roster when training camp opens.

Wood would be an intriguing addition to the Lakers. Even though they have taken fliers on other bigs already so far this offseason, Wood would give them a skill set next to Anthony Davis that they currently don’t have on their roster.

And if Wood can have a resurgence in Los Angeles, there’s a chance that he could emerge as one of the better discount signings this offseason.

At least for now, though, it seems that Wood is still weighing his options – or waiting for another domino to fall before he makes his decision. That said, we know that there are probably a few teams that would sign him now. The Lakers seem to be one of them.
