Biggest offseason moves: Re-signed Harrison Barnes, acquired Chris Duarte

Coming off a season in which the Sacramento Kings emerged as one of the NBA’s darlings, it was an offseason of unchartered waters for this franchise. This wasn’t a team that entered the summer with a huge need to upgrade the order. Instead, the Kings really just needed to continue to build around their core of De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and Keegan Murray. And that’s exactly what the Kings did successfully this offseason.

The big move that is being glossed over that the Kings managed to pull off is the acquisition of Chris Duarte. He had a rough second season in the league with the Indiana Pacers but based on his rookie season, Duarte has the chance to be a real contributor for Sacramento this season. If nothing else, he’ll provide some added depth to the bench.

The one move that the Kings did that I didn’t particularly love is the re-signing of Harrison Barnes. That said, I totally understand the thinking behind it. He was an essential part of the team’s success last season that they wanted to bring him back. That’s understandable. However, on the other hand, I thought this was the perfect time to move on from Barnes.
