Biggest offseason moves: Drafted Victor Wembanyama, acquired Cameron Payne and Reggie Bullock

Excitement is back in the air for the San Antonio Spurs. The funny part of it all is that the Spurs had arguably one of the best offseasons in the NBA and it was almost entirely due to luck. But that’s kind of the NBA and the draft process. After winning the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery, the Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 overall pick. He immediately becomes the much-needed new face of the franchise for the Spurs.

Aside from the addition of Wemby, the Spurs weren’t that active elsewhere. They acquired Cameron Payne and Reggie Bullock as veteran contributors, but it wouldn’t be surprising if one or both of those players were moved again before the NBA Trade Deadline. Especially if they bring Wemby along slowly this season.

San Antonio could end up being a surprisingly pleasant surprise in the NBA this season but I think it’s far more likely that they truly begin to make waves in the NBA in the next 2-3 years. That said, its hard not to be excited about this team’s possibilities moving forward.
