Biggest offseason moves: Drafting Ausur Thompson, acquired Joe Harris, extended Isaiah Stewart

Heading into the offseason, there wasn’t a ton expected of the Detroit Pistons. If they are going to make a big jump in 2023-24, a big reason why is due to their internal development. On paper, the Pistons have one of the best young rosters in the league. Jaden Ivey, Cade Cunningham, and Jalen Duren should all take steps forward this season. The addition of Ausur Thompson via the 2023 NBA Draft should also help the Pistons heading into next season.

Detroit also has the veteran guidance of Bojan Bogdanovic, who is coming off one of the most efficient seasons of his career, to help stir the ship in the right direction. Aside from Thompson, the other two big moves the Pistons made revolved around acquiring Joe Harris from the Brooklyn Nets and agreeing to a contract extension with Isaiah Stewart, a talented young big.

Overall, there’s a case to be made that the Pistons got better during the offseason. They’re still probably a year or two away from being players in the Eastern Conference but they made small steps this offseason to improve. That is a good sign for the team’s future.
