NBA Trade Rumors: 5 reasons why it may be in the best interest of the Philadelphia 76ers to trade Joel Embiid.
The Philadelphia 76ers have stepped into some mess. It’s hard to say whether it was more of their own doing or the cost of doing business with James Harden but one thing’s clear – the organization has some big decisions to make over the next few months.
And I’m not just talking about the decision to fight the good fight against Harden or to simply give in to his demands and trade him for pennies on the dollar. Harden’s decision to be done with the Sixers has somewhat expedited a possible decision that needs to be made regarding Joel Embiid’s future.
Objectively speaking, looking at everything we know about the Sixers at the moment, there is a very strong case that suggests it may be time to trade Embiid. Let’s take a deeper look at the evidence that would suggest that.
Why it’s time for the Philadelphia 76ers to trade Joel Embiid
Daryl Morey may have overplayed his hand with the team
For as good of a reputation as Daryl Morey may have around the league as a general manager, he may have overplayed his hand this time in Philadelphia with James Harden. And having “his” guy call him out is not a great look. It’s actually a terrible optic. The star player that you stuck out your head for is trying to ruin your career.
Morey may be a great general manager, but this is an already messy situation and if it gets any uglier, I can’t see how Morey is going to survive this all. And if the Sixers do end up pivoting away from Morey, it could be viewed as an opportunity to clean the slate across the board.
Trading Joel Embiid would accomplish that by giving the new front office a blank canvas to craft their own era in Philadelphia. If Morey ends up leaving, that could also open the door for Embiid’s exit to be not that far behind.
