NBA Trade Rumors: Is there another possible hint that Damian Lillard is about to be traded?
A little more than a month before the official start of NBA Training Camps and there’s still no resolution between the Portland Trail Blazers and Damian Lillard. It’s been nearly two full months since Lillard demanded a trade to the Miami Heat and as of this week, there had been practically no traction on a potential deal.
There still remains a month for both the Heat and the Blazers to figure something out but unless something changes drastically, it’s looking more and more as if the Lillard saga is going to drag into, at the very least, the start of training camps.
Unless you’re a big believer in the tea leaves. If you pay attention close enough to what’s transpiring on social media, there perhaps may have been a hint to suggest that while there may not be much public indication of a possible deal getting done, that maybe one isn’t all that far off.
That’s because Lillard has apparently unfollowed the Blazers on Instagram. This is something that is extremely hard to attach meaning to tangibly but in the social media age, it certainly has to mean something. Right?
What could be the next domino to fall for Damian Lillard?
It may not be much of a headline but it isn’t insignificant that Lillard unfollowed the Blazers. He spent all his NBA career trying to win a title for the city of Portland. If it wasn’t clear that he was ready to move on before, it should be crystal clear now.
As Lillard tries to apply more pressure on the Blazers to trade him, this is likely one of the tactics that he will use. It’s hard to imagine that Lillard will ever go complete James Harden on the Blazers but small jabs here and there can be effective. And maybe unfollowing the team on Instagram is part of that plan.
Ideally, this situation is something that gets settled before the start of training camp. The last thing that all parties involved need is for this to linger into the season. The good news is that there is still some time to figure it out. There’s basically a month before some bigger decisions will need to be made.
Lillard clearly wants out, the Blazers want the best possible value if they’re trading him, and the Heat don’t want to bid against themselves. These are all fair positions for each of them to be taking. However, at some point, there may be some sacrificing that need to be taken.
The question is, will each of the parties be willing to do so? That may ultimately decide whether or not Lillard is traded before the start of training camps.
