Looking back at some of the best and worst moves the Miami Heat made during the 2023 NBA offseason.

After another surprising run to the NBA Finals, the team’s second in four years, the Miami Heat entered the offseason with the clear mindset that they are a star move away from possibly winning an NBA Championship. That is easier said than done. After all, there are many teams that are considered a “star away” but then never end up acquiring that final piece to win a championship.

However, when free agency opened, the Heat was given an NBA offseason lifeline – Damian Lillard finally demanded a trade away from the Portland Trail Blazers, and it was reported that he specifically wanted to be traded to the Heat. There hasn’t been much traction toward a deal, but there is hope that Lillard could be a member of the Heat before the start of the season.

The Damian Lillard question

But with just a few weeks before the start of training camp, that’s the big question. Will Lillard be a part of the Heat when they open camp? Will he be a part of the team when they open the season? Will he be a part of the Heat by the time the NBA Trade Deadline comes and goes?

It’s tough to gauge anything the Heat has done this offseason without knowing how the Lillard situation is resolved. Nevertheless, we’ll try. Let’s take a look back at some of the best and worst offseason moves made by the Heat this summer.
