NBA Trade Rumors: NBA insider believes that the Miami Heat has the best trade offer for Damian Lillard and that Portland will eventually realize that.
It’s been more than two months since Damian Lillard officially demanded a trade to the Miami Heat. There has been no movement toward a deal but there’s hope – at least from Lillard’s camp and the Heat – that one could materialize before the start of training camp. But with camp being less than 30 days away, the clock is ticking on a potential deal.
The Portland Trail Blazers need to make a decision, and soon. The bottom line is whether or not the Blazers are willing – or want – to carry Lillard on the roster heading into the start of the season. There are arguments both ways but, objectively, it comes to this – Is there a realistic path toward the Blazers getting a better deal than what the Heat is willing to offer at the moment?
Without that guarantee, it makes the decision that much more difficult for the Blazers. According to a recent report, one ESPN insider Bobby Marks believes that it’s only a matter of time before the Blazers come to the realization that the Heat is the best offer that is out there for Lillard and that it’s unlikely that will change.
Predicting what the Miami Heat’s offer for Damian Lillard
If the Heat has the best offer on the open market, you’d have to imagine that it would probably be in the best interest of the Blazers to at least open negotiations in an attempt to try to get a better offer from the Heat. However, it may make sense for the Blazers to play hardball for now, especially if the Heat have shown little-to-no willingness to negotiate against themselves.
But as the start of training camp quickly approaches, the Blazers need to make a decision. Do they really want to carry this possible distraction into the start of the season or do they want to cut their losses and get the most they can out of Lillard and end this entire fiasco now?
If all roads do eventually lead to the Heat, maybe Portland will come to that realization and decide to trade Lillard before the start of camp. It would make sense but with how the Blazers have operated since the trade demand, it’s almost impossible to predict how they’re going to proceed.
Even if it makes all the sense in the world to trade Lillard now, that’s far from a certainty.
