With LeBron James getting another year older (he turns 39 in December), it’s only natural to be concerned about his health. And if we’ve learned anything through the last few years of his career, it’s that if he gets injured, the Lakers’ season is completely blown up. Getting a healthy LeBron to the playoffs has to be one of the top priorities for the team heading into the season. The same could be said about Anthony Davis.

Looking back, when AD and LeBron have been healthy for an extended amount of time, the Lakers have been extremely difficult to beat. When they haven’t, they’ve either missed the playoffs or have been a first-round exit. Load management could play a big part in preserving both LeBron and AD. With the new rule, it will give the coaching staff something else to figure out.

The Lakers addressed their supporting cast this offseason so maybe fewer minutes for LeBron and AD in games will be enough to fill in the spots of natural load management opportunities. The Lakers just may have to be creative with the spots that they choose their two top stars to sit out.
