NBA Rumors: Damian Lillard finds himself in the social media game again as he shares an interesting post suggesting a trade to the Miami Heat could be close.

As the Damian Lillard saga gets dangerously close to leaking into the start of the season, we’re going to find out a lot about both the Portland Trail Blazers’ and the Miami Heat’s intentions over the course of the next few weeks.

In the meantime, many fans are going to be on the hunt for any small tea leaves that could potentially point to a deal getting done. There was one interesting potential message shared via social media from Lillard’s Instagram account that could add to the trade intrigue.

Lillard shared an interesting post on his story:

I don’t think this means anything necessarily, but it echoes the fact that Lillard wants to be in Miami. Maybe this is a slip of the thumb and something that Lillard deleted soon after sharing.

A Damian Lillard trade could be on the horizon

If it was intentional, Lillard is being somewhat playful with this social media share. He has to be at this point. Everyone knows what he wants and from the outside looking in, it’s beginning to feel like a foregone conclusion that he’ll eventually find his way to Miami. However, there is reasoning (outside this social media share and then delete) to suggest that a deal could be close.

For one, NBA Training Camps are set to open in the next two weeks. There’s an incentive for both the Heat and Blazers to get a deal done before the start of camp. Portland may not want the Lillard distraction to be at the forefront of their training camp and the Heat would love to have their roster somewhat finalized before the official start of the season.

No one wants to add a superstar midseason. Ideally, you’re able to get him during the offseason and offer the team the best chance to gel before the start of the season. Acquiring Lillard before training camp opens would be ideal for Miami, or any team that is pursuing him.

Logical reasoning points to the Blazers trading Lillard in the next 7-10 days. However, nothing that has happened in this saga has been logical reasoning. It’s hard to expect something to happen when it probably should’ve already been dealt with weeks ago. At least for now, I still believe there’s a very good chance Lillard ends up in Miami. Though, it’s almost impossible to predict when it will actually happen.
