When stars hit the open market, one dark horse team that nearly everyone is quick to point out is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Fair or not, OKC should be a team that is discussed any time there’s a legit difference-maker that hits the open market. And when it comes to Buddy Hield, that shouldn’t change at all. The Thunder are an extremely talented young team that is expected to make quite the jump this season.

There’s an argument to make that they still may be a veteran away from being a real dark horse in the Western Conference. The question is, could Buddy Hield emerge as that piece for the Thunder? On one hand, he might. At this point in his career, Hield is still an effective scorer and one of the best 3-point shooters in the league. Can you imagine how effective he’d be next to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren?

With the assets that the Thunder has at its disposal, making a play for Hield could be worth the gamble. Hield is not the star that is going to take OKC over the top, but he could be an instant ceiling-raising difference-maker who would make an impact this season.
