Obviously, winning a championship would be the best outcome for the Milwaukee Bucks this season. And there’s a very good chance that they’ll be able to do that. However, I believe there’s something deeper at play that the fan base should be hoping for. In a best-case scenario, it would become clear that Lillard is a great fit next to Giannis and that it would be enough for him to sign a long-term extension with the team.

After all, more than winning a championship this season, this move was not just about competing with the Boston Celtics. It was also about trying to sell Giannis about his future with the team. But I have a feeling Giannis will wait out the season in order to see if this move ends up being worth it. And that’s fair.

Even though this move seems like a home run on paper, considering Lillard’s age, injury history, and hefty contract, it’s far from a guarantee – in both the short and long term. But even if the season doesn’t end with a championship, but Giannis re-signs, it would be a huge win for the Bucks.
