NBA Rumors: The Philadelphia 76ers plan to trade for another All-Star player even after moving on from James Harden.

The official start of the 2023-24 NBA regular season is less than two weeks away and there remains much unresolved between the Philadelphia 76ers and James Harden. Even though he’s taking part in practices, Harden still very much wants to be traded and the Sixers and LA Clippers are at least somewhat engaged in finding a path toward a possible deal.

So far, there has been not much luck. It’s looking more and more like this is a situation that may end up lingering into the start of the season. If it does, though, it will do no favors to the Sixers or Clippers.

At some point, you’d have to imagine that it’s going to be completed and once it is, the belief is that the Sixers have some very big plans as they attempt to retool the roster around Joel Embiid.

The Philadelphia 76ers have big plans after trading James Harden

In the latest update on the Harden front, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski gave a bit of insight into what might be going through the mind of Sixers general manager Daryl Morey. Specifically, Woj notes that the plan is for the Sixers to flip whatever they get in exchange for Harden for another All-Star caliber player.

It’s hard to envision just how feasible this will be for the Sixers, but you’d have to imagine that a lot of that will depend on what they get in exchange for Harden. Assuming this is indeed the case, it would make sense that the Sixers are taking such a hard stance on their asking price.

Philadelphia reportedly wants two first-round picks in exchange for Harden and/or a first-round pick and Terance Mann from the Clippers. So far, LA hasn’t been able to meet the price. However, they’re reportedly trying to find a middle ground.

At this point, with no meaningful trade market for Harden, it would be in the best interest of all sides to find a middle ground. The last thing the Sixers and Harden need, respectably, is a lost season.

The big question for the Sixers revolves around what happens after the Harden trade. Right now, that may be the biggest burning, unresolved storyline to watch unfold heading into the start of the season.
