NBA Rumors: New York Knicks eyeing trade market for Karl-Anthony Towns?
NBA Rumors: The New York Knicks are keeping a close eye on Karl-Anthony Towns and his possible trade market.
As the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics made all-in moves this offseason, the New York Knicks continued to practice their patience in finding their next star target. The Knicks are waiting for the right time to pounce when it comes to a superstar trade, but there are some indications that it could come soon.
The Knicks are built for a star. After making a run to the conference semifinals last season, you can make the argument that New York is a star acquisition away from being a legit contender in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks have the necessary assets to trade for almost any superstar in the league; it’s more about finding the right target at the moment for New York.
With the next slate of stars set to hit the trade market soon, there’s one intriguing player who could be on the brink of finding himself on the block – Karl-Anthony Towns.
Despite how polarizing of a player KAT has been over the last couple of seasons, he’s a player that the Knicks are reportedly monitoring.
Could Karl-Anthony Towns be the missing piece for the New York Knicks?
Despite the narrative that has followed him over the last couple of seasons, on paper, KAT is one of the most talented big men in the NBA. In what will be remembered as a “down” season for KAT, he averaged 21 points and eight rebounds on 37 percent shooting from 3-point range.
He’s also still only 27 years old.
There are a few things we know about KAT. For one, he’s probably not at a level where he can be a legit No. 1 option on a playoff team. That’s perfectly fine. That doesn’t or shouldn’t diminish his talent. Just because a player isn’t built to be a No. 1 option doesn’t mean he still isn’t one of the most talented players in the league.
The interesting part of the potential Knicks’ interest is that he won’t have to be the No. 1 option on the team. With Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett, he could prove to find a nice role as the No. 2 or 3 option on the team.
The big question is whether that’s a move that would make the Knicks a championship contender in the East.
That’s a complicated question, but it’s clear that KAT could be in play for the Knicks in the future. New York should be open to any star that potentially comes available. If KAT finds himself on the trade block at some point soon, the Knicks should at the very least check in.
