Indiana Pacers
Breakout candidate: Bennedict Mathurin
Bennedict Mathurin is coming off one of the most underrated rookie seasons in the NBA last year, but he could very much just be scratching the surface of the player he could be when he reaches his full potential. As he enters his sophomore season with the Indiana Pacers, there’s still room for him to grow and as he enters the season as a starter, it only makes sense that he could be a natural breakout candidate for Indiana.
Mathurin averaged 17 points and four rebounds on 43 percent shooting in 28 minutes per game this past season. The thought is that he’s likely going to get a few more minutes per game and the hope is that his shooting efficiency improves as well. There’s not much that Mathurin can’t do on the floor and he’s a big part of Indiana’s exciting young core.
If Mathurin can continue to evolve as a playmaker and inch closer to being a much more efficient player offensively, he’s the type of player who could be named to an All-Star team in the not-so-distant future.
The Pacers should be excited about Mathurin’s future with the team. And this season, we could see him take another big step forward.
