Spencer Dinwiddie, Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets will have several big decisions to make regarding some of their expiring contracts. One of the biggest revolves around Spencer Dinwiddie. On paper, it wouldn’t make a ton of sense for the Nets to trade Dinwiddie. Especially considering that he’s currently listed as a starter and that the Nets are going to try to make a push for the playoffs this season. However, the re-emergence of Ben Simmons could completely change this team’s math this year and, perhaps most importantly, could eliminate the need for Dinwiddie pretty quickly.

If Simmons does emerge as the player he was a few years ago, there’s no guarantee that he will, it wouldn’t be all that surprising for the Nets to try to cut off some of the loose fat on their roster. An expiring contract such as Dinwiddie would represent that.

If the Nets don’t have a huge need for Dinwiddie by the time the NBA Trade Deadline comes around, it would be smart for them to try and add another asset before the offseason arrives. The Sixers could be beneficiaries on that front as Dinwiddie would be an interesting addition next to Joel Embiid.
