NBA Defensive Player of the Year: Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers
Entering his third season in the league, this is the year when it can begin to all come together for Evan Mobley. I’m not sure if he’s going to make the complete star turn this year but he is going to become a household name around the league. And one way of doing so is by making waves on the defensive end of the floor. As one of the most versatile defenders in the league, I don’t believe that winning the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award is out of the question.
If Mobley does end up making the leap this season, it will likely begin on the defensive end of the floor. Just the way the Cavs are built, that’s where he’s going to make the biggest impact right away. The offense may eventually come but with Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland carrying most of the load on that end of the floor, Mobley can create major havoc on the defensive end.
Mobley has the chance to be one of the best – and most versatile – bigs in the NBA. And there’s a good chance that this is the year where he begins to make the jump to stardom.
