How much Victor Wembanyama will we see to start the season?
The San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich have a recent history of bringing along rookies slowly. The philosophy in San Antonio is to allow talented young players to develop in the shadows before they’re completely thrown into the limelight. The question is, will that be the case at all for Victor Wembanyama? He put on a show in the NBA’s Summer League and pre-season and the overall expectation is that will continue to be the case once the regular season begins.
Being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, that comes with the territory. However, it’ll be interesting to see if Pop plays along with what the public wants to see. In pre-season, he didn’t play more than 23 minutes in any of the four games he appeared in. Heading into the start of the season, you can’t help but wonder if that 25-minute threshold is the line for him at least early on.
Either way, it’ll be interesting to see it all come together for Wemby and the Spurs. He’s certainly one of the players that all eyes will be on when the Spurs take the floor for their first regular season game.
