The Memphis Grizzlies are broken
In what has become one of the biggest surprises in the NBA, the Memphis Grizzlies are 1-7. Marcus Smart is suspended for the first 25 games of the season but it’s not like the Grizzlies are not talented enough to stay afloat without their leader. They are. However, for one reason or another, that simply hasn’t been the case for Memphis so far this season. The funny thing about the Grizzlies is that the stats don’t even point to this team being that bad.
They have an average defense but an offense that does them no favors. Without a clear superstar on their team, that’s a clear formula for disappointment. Simply put, they don’t have enough consistency on the offensive end of the floor to win games right now. And unless something changes quickly, this team is going to continue to spiral down the Western Conference standings.
All that said, I’m not even sure if the return of Morant will cure everything. This team feels broken.
