In the first edition of our NBA MVP power rankings, Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid are battling for some early-season dominance.

Roughly a month into the 2023-24 NBA season and there is already a list of superstar players that are beginning to make a strong consideration for the league’s MVP award. There still may be much of the regular season to be played, but the MVP race is off to a hot start.

Before we get to our list of the top 7 NBA MVP candidates through the first month of the season, let’s get to a list of honorable mentions.

NBA MVP honorable mentions

It wouldn’t be fair to talk about a few players who have been excelling so far this season but not to the extent where they’re going to get much consideration for the NBA MP award. At least not yet. Nevertheless, a few players who do deserve some love for how they’ve played early on this season are Bam Adebayo, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Donovan Mitchell. Those players have quietly been great so far this season and are big reasons why their teams have remained somewhat afloat in their respective conference races.

Heading into the thick of the season, there’s probably a good chance a couple of those players, at the very least, end up climbing up the NBA MVP ladder. But, for now, there are seven players who deserve genuine spots in our NBA MVP Power Rankings 1.0.
