NBA Mock Draft 3.0: New No. 1 prospect emerges; Bulls eye next face of the franchise
30. Boston Celtics - Zach Edey, C, Purdue
The Boston Celtics have been pretty otherworldly this season. Short of a big injury taking place, the Celtics are going to be the overwhelming favorites to win the 2024 NBA Championship. As loaded as the Celtics are, if there is one weak spot on the roster, it's at the center position. There's little depth behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford at the position and short of an unforeseen trade deadline move, this will continue to be the case heading into the offseason.
One way the Celtics can address their weakness is via the NBA Draft. One center that the Celtics could take a flier on is Zach Edey. The 7-foot-4 Purdue senior is a center who's going to have a strong case to be a first-round pick. Sure, he struggles with quickness and the ability to get out on the wing defensively, but he's such an offensive force that he's going to get a shot to prove his worth in the NBA.
In what will likely be his final season at Purdue, Edey is averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks per game on 62 percent shooting from the field. Maybe the Celtics can make Edey work in the NBA?
